Tokyo, Japan – Nissan has announced that all future new models will be equipped with a fuel consumption gauge, to give drivers more information on how their driving style directly relates to fuel economy. The gauge will also be added to current models scheduled for minor product “freshenings”.
The gauge provides the driver with both instant and average fuel consumption readings. Based on trials, the company says drivers have tended to improve their eco-driving habits over time, prompted by the real-time fuel consumption readings; improvements have also included smoother acceleration and braking, which could potentially lead to an average 10 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency.
The gauge is part of the company’s Nissan Green Program 2010 mid-term environmental action plan.
