Detroit, Michigan – General Motors has announced that it will not include a new, smaller diesel V8 engine in its 2010 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks, as previously announced.

The company blamed the current economic climate on its decision to place the Duramax 4.5-litre V8 on “indefinite hold.” The two truck brands will continue to offer a heavy-duty Duramax 6.6-litre V8 engine, while light-duty truck customers will have a choice of several fuel-efficient gasoline engines with Active Fuel Management and six-speed transmission, or new 2-Mode Hybrid models.

GM said that it remains optimistic that the 4.5-litre diesel may be a viable option in the future.
