Whitby, Ontario – BMW Group Canada has announced that the BMW 1 Series Coupe will debut in Canada in 2008. The company will launch the 128i and 135i Coupes in the premium compact segment in Canada; the model range has been available in Europe and other global markets since 2004.

The 128i Coupe will use BMW’s latest-generation 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, generating 200 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque, also used in the 3 and 5 Series models. The 135i Coupe will use BMW’s new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder, which produces 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. In European specification, the 135i Coupe accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. Both cars will use a six-speed manual transmission, or optional six-speed automatic with Steptronic manual mode.

Canadian availability is scheduled for the first half of 2008, with pricing available closer to the market launch.
