Longueuil, Quebec – Major roadwork will close most of Montreal’s Champlain Bridge this weekend, with motorists advised to use other routes.
Work to replace expansion joints will take place from Friday, May 20 at 11 p.m. to Monday, May 23 at 5 a.m. During this period, both during the day and at night, only one lane will be open towards Montreal and two lanes open towards the South Shore.
Motorists are advised to use the Jacques-Cartier Bridge, Victoria Bridge or Honoré-Mercier Bridge. Two lanes on the Victoria Bridge will exceptionally be opened northbound from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday to counter the closures on the Champlain Bridge, while the Jacques-Cartier Bridge will be able to open three lanes in either direction depending on traffic flow.
The northbound lane open to traffic on the Champlain Bridge will be narrower than usual, at 3.3 metres. Trucks exceeding the allowed width will be asked to avoid the northbound lane on the bridge.
