Mitsubishi’s compact Lancer wins ‘Best New Economy Car’ award
Montreal, Quebec – Barely two months after its entry into the Canadian market, Mitsubishi Motors has won a Canadian award for its compact Lancer sedan. The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) selected the Lancer ES as “Best new economy car under $18,000”. The Lancer ES beat out the Dodge SX 2.0, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio RX-V, Pontiac Sunfire Coupe, and Suzuki Aerio GL Fastback
“Being recognized by AJAC as the best new sedan in the largest segment in Canada is an honour,” said Randy Sears president and chief executive officer, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN)
“We’re delighted that such a prestigious panel of judges has responded favourably to our products,” said Greg O’Neill, president and chief operating officer, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America (MMSA). MMSCAN recorded the largest first month sales of any company to launch in Canada in 10 years, and the best first 60-day sales of any manufacturer in Canada in the past two decades.
MMSCAN remains confident it will meet its sales target of 20,000 vehicles in 2003, growing to at least 38,000 by 2006. With an already established network of 43 dealerships, the company is on track to increase to 150 locations by the close of 2006.
