Normal, Illinois – Production of Mitsubishi’s RVR compact sport utility, currently built in Japan, will be moved to the company’s plant in Illinois in mid-2012. The plant, which previously built the Galant, Eclipse and Endeavor, will discontinue these models and now concentrate on the RVR.

The RVR is known as the Outlander Sport in the U.S. market.

“Mitsubishi Motors remains fully committed to producing vehicles in Normal,” said Shinichi Kurihara, president of Mitsubishi Motors North America. “We will build vehicles here not just for the United States, but for many nations around the world.”

Kurihara estimated that half of all vehicles produced at the plant in Normal will be exported.

Illinois has pledged approximately US$29 million in support over the next ten years through the state’s Growing Economy Tax Credit program.
