Mitsubishi opens nine Canadian dealerships in nine months

Mississauga, Ontario – Mitsubishi has announced that nine new dealerships have opened in Canada in the past nine months, for a total of 56 nationwide. The company credits much of it to Mitsubishi’s Japanese operations appointing Canadian-born Paul Cummings as the new president and CEO in Canada nine months ago and his efforts to enlarge Mitsubishi’s dealer presence.

The new dealerships are Mid-Toronto Mitsubishi and Pickering Mitsubishi in Ontario; Lethbridge Mitsubishi in Alberta; Autohouse Mitsubishi in British Columbia; Fredericton Mitsubishi in New Brunswick; and St-Hyacinthe Mitsubishi, Boucherville Mitsubishi, Repentigny Mitsubishi and Grenier Mitsubishi in Quebec.

The company says that Cummings plans to increase the number of dealerships to 65 by next year, and to 90 over the next three years, and has a goal of 12,000 vehicle sales for 2006 and 17,000 vehicles three years from now. The company has a dealer council for the first time in Canada and has been granted greater independence; as of September 1, 2005, the Canadian operation no longer depends on its American counterpart, but reports directly to the head office in Tokyo, Japan.
