Tokyo, Japan – Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced that it will accelerate the introduction of a next-generation 2.0-litre class diesel engine to the European market, where demand for such engines is growing. Currently under development, the new engine will go into production at the Kyoto Powertrain Plant in early 2009, one year earlier than scheduled. Following its European introduction, it will be phased into other markets.
The new diesel engine is being developed jointly with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and is a key element in the company’s efforts to lower CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions. Alongside electric vehicle technology, it is a core element in Mitsubishi’s “Environment Initiative Program 2010”.
