Tokyo, Japan – Mitsubishi Chemical Company (MCC) will establish a new subsidiary in China next year to manufacture and sell formulated electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries.

Battery production in China is expected to grow rapidly for consumer electronics and emerging automotive applications. MCC anticipates a sharp rise in demand for formulated electrolyte in China. The company has already announced new operation sites in the United States and United Kingdom and plans to accelerate the global expansion of its formulated electrolyte business.

The new subsidiary will be the second branch of MCC’s battery materials business in China. Its Qingdao Anode Kasei Company, announced in September 2010, manufacturers and markets anode material. The company plans to provide all four key materials for lithium-ion batteries: formulated electrolyte, anode, cathode and separator.
