Mitsubishi’s rally-bred monster gets the axe
A report from Japan’s Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun is spelling the end of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution sometime this year. The outlet states Mitsubishi will cease production of the high-performance model to focus on eco-friendly vehicles.
In Canada, that will bring Mitsubishi’s available models down to seven, with a good portion of them being variations of the current Lancer. The base model Lancer is getting long in the tooth as well, as the current generation car has been around since 2007.
Mitsubishi will probably return with a new Evolution in a couple of years, possibly a separate car from the Lancer itself and sporting a high-performance hybrid powertrain much like what’s been rumoured for the next Nissan GT-R.
