Mississauga, Ontario – Mitsubishi Motors has announced the 2008 Lancer Evolution, the newest and most sophisticated version of the high-performance model, and the first to be offered in Canada.

The new Evolution includes an all-new 291-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged and intercooled engine with Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system. Two models will be offered in Canada: the GSR with new five-speed manual transmission, and the MR, with new six-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST), a new-generation automated manual transmission. The MR model is also equipped exclusively with Bilstein shock absorbers, Eibach springs, two-piece brake rotors, BBS forged-alloy wheels, HID headlamps and additional interior features. The new Evolution will also have less differentiation from market to market than the previous generations.

“The arrival of Lancer Evolution to the Canadian marketplace marks a significant milestone for Mitsubishi in Canada,” said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales Canada. “I made a commitment to enhance Mitsubishi’s product line-up when I arrived in Canada and so far we’ve achieved record sales with the introduction of the all-new Outlander and Lancer, and the arrival of the Lancer Evolution is just one more in a string of exciting vehicles to come.”

Other features include a shark-nosed front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes, 18-inch alloy wheels with Brembo brakes, and available Rockford Fosgate audio and navigation systems.
