Richmond Hill, Ontario – Mini is the official automotive partner of the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship in Quebec City for the second year, and this Saturday will award the Mini Rookie Award to the fastest “newbie” on the course.
More than 120,000 spectators are expected to attend the event, in which groups of four athletes on ice skates plunge down an ice-cross downhill track peppered with bumps, jumps and banked turns.
The 2011 Mini Rookie Award goes to the top ice-racing newcomer in each of four international events. Quebec is the fourth and final stop of the Red Bull Crashed Ice event. Previous winners of the Mini Rookie Award are Fabian Mels in Munich, Germany; Hrvoje Starjacki in Valkenburg, Netherlands; and Pavel Kryukov in Moscow, Russia.
