Whitby, Ontario – Mini Canada has announced that an all-new model, the Mini Clubman, will join the Mini line-up in the first quarter of 2008. The Clubman is based on the “shooting brake” configuration of the original Morris Mini Traveller, Austin Mini Countryman, and Mini Clubman Estate of the 1960s.
The Clubman will be offered as the Mini Cooper Clubman, with 118-hp four-cylinder engine, and as the Mini Cooper S Clubman, with 172-hp turbocharged four-cylinder.
The Clubman’s distinctive body style features a lengthened roofline, significantly longer cabin, and two rear-opening doors with outside hinging mechanisms. Each door is equipped with its own windshield wiper and trimmed with a frame matched to the roof colour. As an option, the Mini Clubman is also available with the roof finished in body colour. The Clubman is 24 cm longer than the Mini, with a wheelbase 8 cm longer, and with a luggage capacity that ranges from 260 to 930 litres, depending on whether the rear seat is upright or folded.
The new model also features the “Clubdoor”, a second, handle-free door behind the right front door, which can only be opened when the front door is also open. Pricing and detailed specifications will be available closer to market launch.
