Mini announces new 6-speed automatic transmission for 2005
Whitby, Ontario – Mini Canada announced that a new 6-speed automatic transmission and a limited slip differential will be available as options on all 2005 Cooper S and Cooper S Convertibles. These features will be making their Canadian debut at the Montreal International auto show and are available on all Minis produced from January, 2005 and onwards.
New for 2005, a 6-speed automatic transmission equipped with both paddle shifters on the steering wheel and a traditional gearshift is available. Unlike the CVT automatic offered on the Mini Cooper, this unit has fixed gears which result in fast gear changes and improved acceleration. Through the use of Adaptive Transmission Control, a Mini Cooper S or Cooper S Convertible equipped with an automatic transmission is able to produce almost identical performance figures to those for the manual version. The 6-speed automatic is priced at $1290.
The limited slip differential diverts more torque towards the drive wheel with better traction to ensure that engine power is transmitted to the road effectively. The limited slip differential is priced at $650 and is available with the manual 6-speed transmission.
