Mini announces 2006 updates and pricing

Whitby, Ontario – Mini Canada has enhanced its 2006 model lineup with new packages and optional features, including a new factory-installed John Cooper Works package and new “Checkmate” and “Quicksilver” packages. There is no price increase on the 2006 Mini Cooper Classic; all other models rise by only $100.

The John Cooper Works, previously available as a dealer add-on, is now available as a 2006 factory-installed option on the Mini Cooper S. The package includes a power increase to 208 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque, plus a sport brake kit and limited-slip differential. The new package is $5,900; the dealer-installed kit will continue to be available, along with an expanded line of John Cooper Works tuner accessories.

The new “Checkmate” package, at $2,350, is available on the Cooper S hatchback, and features special Checkmate side decals, silver roof, mirror caps and hood stripes with two new colours. The Checkmate interior includes uniquely-patterned sport seats, leather-wrapped wheel and high-gloss patterned dash; outside, the package includes 17-inch Flame Spoke performance wheels and tires, dynamic stability control and front and rear fog lamps.

The “Quicksilver” package, available for $200 on the Mini Cooper equipped with sport package, is a similar colour scheme to the “Checkmate”.

The Mini Cooper Classic is priced at $23,500, while the Mini Cooper is $25,900, the Mini Cooper S $30,600, the Mini Cooper Convertible $31,600 and the Mini Cooper S Convertible is $36,600. The 2006 models should be available in Canada in October.
