Michelin to close Ohio plant

Mogadore, Ohio – Michelin North America Inc. has announced that it will close its facility in Mogadore, Ohio and consolidate the plant’s tire production with its BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Ohio plant currently employs about 70 workers and produces short runs of specialty tires, such as rock crawling and competition tires.

The transfer of production will begin in July and be completed by the end of October 2007. The Tuscaloosa plant employs approximately 1,275 people and produces BFGoodrich passenger and light truck tires.

“This difficult decision to close the Mogadore facility supports Michelin’s emphasis on reducing production costs while continuing to provide its customers with quality products,” says Jean-Michel Guillon, chief operating officer of Michelin Americas Small Tires. “The consolidation to the Tuscaloosa plant will take advantage of the economies of scale for the long term.”
