Michelin plant builds 200-millionth tire
Greenville, South Carolina – After 31 years in operation, Michelin’s Greenville, South Carolina plant has produced its 200-millionth tire, a Michelin P225/50R17 Pilot HX HXM4.
The company estimates that the 200 million tires produced could wrap around the earth’s equator more than three times; equip every passenger car registered in South Carolina with new tires each year for 26 years; and enable a commute from the Sun to Saturn every day for the entire 32 years the facility has been operating.
The first tire produced at the Greenville plant fit a 13-inch rim; the 200-millionth tire was designed for a 17-inch rim.
