Michelin introduces self-regenerating tread for commercial truck tires

Greenville, South Carolina – Michelin has announced the first self-regenerating tread, the Michelin XDA Hypersipe, which will be available on commercial truck tires.

The retread uses a patented tread design and new technology so that sipes (the small cuts in the tread) moulded into the bottom of the tread appear as the tire wears, giving improved traction over the life of the retread. The bottom sipes last to the last 32nd of tread. Research for the new retread began in Spring 2004; the XDA Hypersipe will be commercially available in limited quantities in 230 mm tread width in August 2006, with more sizes to be added in future.
