Michelin announces 2008 Challenge Design

Pasadena, California – Michelin has announced that it has selected the panel of judges for the 2008 Michelin Challenge Design, which will feature the work of some of the world’s most talented up-and-coming designers. The judges will select the vehicle designs and concepts for a special exhibition at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next January.

The international competition, now in its seventh year, has a record 72 individual designers, teams, studios and companies from more than 50 countries submitting full-size vehicles, scale models, and/or computer-generated renderings.

The theme for the upcoming event is “Safer. Smaller. Better.”, which challenges designers to create enhanced safety design through innovation in such areas as crash avoidance, enhanced driver controls, survivability and visibility. They were encouraged to “throw away the book” and consider designs that present innovative approaches to vehicle ingress and egress, side impact protection, occupant protection volume, seating arrangement, vehicle dimensions and proportions, providing an enhanced feeling of security in smaller vehicles.
