Michelin and TCI launch disaster response unit

Greenville, South Carolina – Michelin North America and its subsidiary TCI Tire Centers have unveiled a new disaster response service unit, to be used in areas hit by natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. The 53-foot trailer is a fully-equipped tire centre, with six air stations for mounting, dismounting, repairing and balancing tires, along with satellite communications equipment and sleeping accommodations for six people.

When deployed, the unit will serve as command central for a specially trained field service crew that will perform on-site tire service for emergency response vehicles, such as utility crews, EMTs and fire departments engaged in critical disaster recovery operations. The unit will be based at the TCI Tire Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and will be deployed upon request or as needed across the continental United States.
