Stuttgart, Germany – Mercedes-Benz will celebrate the world premiere of its new SLS AMG at the Frankfurt International Motor Show on September 15. The new super sports car delivers a mix of purist styling, lightweight design and superior driving dynamics.
It uses an aluminum space frame body with gullwing doors, an AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid engine developing 571 horsepower, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a curb weight of 1,620 kilograms. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds, and the car has an electronically-limited top speed of 317 km/h.
“Mercedes-Benz is presenting an exhilarating super sports car in the guide of the new SLS AMG, which is bound to set the pulses of all car enthusiasts racing that extra bit faster,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The brands Mercedes-Benz and AMG have joined forces to create the SLS AMG, which is set to become one of the most alluring sports cars of all time.”
The new model’s styling reinterprets the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, known for the iconic configuration of its doors.
The SLS AMG will go on sale in the spring of 2010, at €177,310. The company has not yet indicated if the model will come to North America.
