Mercedes-Benz to offer Bluetec diesel SUVs in U.S. in 2008
Montvale, New Jersey – Mercedes-Benz has announced that it intends to offer Bluetec diesel-powered versions of its M-Class, R-Class and GL-Class SUVs in the U.S., beginning in calendar year 2008. The company says they will be the world’s first diesel-powered vehicles to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) stringent BIN5 emissions standards for all 50 states.
The three SUVs are the latest additions to Mercedes’ line-up of clean diesel engines; the E320 Bluetec will make its showroom debut in October 2006, with a 3.0-litre V6 that combines the torque of a V8 engine with the fuel consumption of a four-cylinder compact. It is also the only diesel-powered vehicle in the U.S. certified to meet BIN8 emissions standards.
