Stuttgart, Germany – Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will invest in a new stamping facility in Kuppenheim, Germany, which will stamp exterior panels for the A- and B-Class passenger vehicles, and for Mercedes-Benz trucks. The company will invest a total of about €70 million in the facility.
The new plant will be adjacent to the company’s Gaggenau transmission plant. When the new plant is completed, the forming technology will be relocated to the new stamping facility, freeing up space that will be available for the expansion of the powertrain manufacturing facility.
Construction will commence in the first quarter of 2009, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2010, when test operations will be launched. The new facility will provide jobs for around 130 employees.
