Mercedes-Benz introduces web-site for kids 6 to 12

Stuttgart, Germany – A new web-site developed by Mercedes-Benz for children from 6 to 12 explains automotive technology in a fun and entertaining way.

At, a virtual character symbolizing the site, a little girl named Cedy, explains interesting things having to do with technology, the environment or safety. Cedy takes kids from 6 to 12 right by the hand and leads them through the varied program of information on the site, ranging from a virtual race track to a 3-D museum and much more.

Animation is used to present a variety of current vehicle models and explain their technical features: By just clicking on the pictures, kids can find out details on the chassis, engine performance or top speeds. At the same time, they can participate in a contest and send out e-cards.

Historical films vividly depict the development history of the automobile, which is closely tied to the history of the Mercedes-Benz brand. Kids can take a virtual tour of a museum, with Cedy as their competent and knowledgeable companion. She describes each model and tells some of its history, along with some humorous anecdotes that will appeal to kids.

As the year goes by, Cedy appears in outfits that fit the season and surprises kids with yet another new online game. There is already an extensive collection of online games available on the site, games that are non-violent and appropriate for children from 6 to 12 years of age. For instance, the snowball and water fight games help children become more proficient in using a computer while, at the same time, challenging them to win the greatest number of points.

The contents of Cedy’s World are reviewed and revised regularly to accommodate suggestions and requests from children. Kids can write directly to Cedy by e-mail, and they’ll always get a response: either Cedy will send back an e-mail directly or she’ll incorporate the question or comment right into the material on the site. Once a month, the entire contents of the site are reviewed and tested by an advisory panel made up of children. All this means that the children always have more than one way to influence the design of the site and its contents.

Cedy’s World places a high value on careful and prudent interaction with its young users. The data collected during the online contest will not be used for commercial purposes of any type, such as promotions or advertising. In fact, they won’t even be retained at all.
