Stuttgart, Germany – Mercedes-Benz is commencing sales of the E320 BLUETEC diesel in Canada and the U.S. next week, coinciding with the conversion of filling stations to clean diesel fuel. Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD), with a sulphur content below 15 ppm, makes the E320 BLUETEC the world’s cleanest diesel car, and the first and only diesel worldwide able to better the stringent American BIN 8 exhaust emissions standard.

The E320 BLUETEC will be available in Canada and in 45 U.S. states; it uses up to 30 per cent less fuel than comparable gasoline-engine vehicles in North America. The company has announced that it will also offer the R-Class, ML-Class and GL-Class in BLUETEC versions as early as 2008. The latest J.D. Power and Associates “Global Outlook for Diesel” study forecasts that diesels will account for more than 15 per cent of new registrations in North America by 2015.

Starting October 21, 33 E-Class cars, including three E320 BLUETEC models, will embark on an endurance test from Paris to Peking; the cars will cover 13,600 km over 26 days.
