Mercedes-Benz Canada ranks 10th in survey of best companies to work for
Toronto, Ontario – Mercedes-Benz Canada has been ranked 10th in a survey conducted by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine which identifies annually the top 50 companies to work for in Canada. Mercedes-Benz Canada was the only automotive company to be ranked in the top 50 list. The company’s 10th position represents a significant improvement over its 25th spot in the 2002 survey.
This is the magazines’ fourth annual rating of Canada’s top employers, and the exhaustive assessment was designed and conducted by Hewitt Associates, an independent human-resources consulting firm located in Toronto. The survey was sent to approximately 1,500 companies with a minimum of 300 employees; it was actually completed by 128 firms and consisted of three parts. First, each participating company distributed a detailed questionnaire to a sizable number of employees who were selected at random. This exercise counted for 70% of the overall mark. In the case of Mercedes-Benz Canada, the questionnaire was completed by 400 employees.
The portions counting for 30% of the mark entailed the completion of a comprehensive human-resource practices survey and a Leadership Team survey for top executives.
President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada, Ernst H. Lieb was very pleased with the considerable improvement in the 2003 survey ranking: “Over the last few years, we have made concerted efforts to foster an open dialogue with our employees. Whether it’s through regular employee meetings, our bi-monthly speak-outs, mid-day summer BBQ’s, annual boat cruises or seasonal parties, we regularly share with our employees our vision, and the kind of help and commitment we require from them to achieve our objectives.”
Mercedes-Benz Canada imports and distributes luxury vehicles through a network of 54 dealers. It employs a total of 742 employees across Canada in two divisions: 131 employees in the corporate area and 611 employees in 14 Mercedes-Benz owned retail operations in Montreal, Toronto, London and Vancouver.
