Mercedes-Benz announces supercharged CLS55 AMG
Toronto, Ontario – Mercedes-Benz has announced that its “four-door coupe”, the CLS, is now available with a 469 hp V8 supercharged engine from AMG, the company’s high-performance division. The car will also include an AMG-specific interior and exterior, with AMG sport seats and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The CLS500 debuted in Canada in January with a 302 hp 5.0-litre V8. The AMG version uses a 5.5-litre V8 that makes 469 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque for zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.7 seconds. A belt-driven Lysholm screw-type supercharger is located between the cylinder banks and works with a special intercooler to provide low-temperature, high-density intake air. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission, which can be manually shifted from either the conventional shifter or from Formula 1-style buttons on the steering wheel. An AMG-specific sports suspension based on Mercedes-Benz’s semi-active air suspension includes stiffer springs, shocks and stabilizer bars than on the CLS500, and three sport-comfort settings.
