Hiroshima, Japan – Total cumulative global production of the Mazda3 has reached three million units, seven years and ten months after production originally began in June 2003.
The milestone was reached on April 26, 2011. The model, known as the Mazda Axela in Japan, is the fastest-selling vehicle in the current lineup and represents one-third of the company’s sales.
The Mazda3 is built at Mazda’s Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi, Japan; by Changan Ford Mazda Automobile in Nanjing, China; and by AutoAlliance in Thailand. The three million vehicle is a Japanese-specification four-door hatchback built at the Hofu Plant.
