Hiroshima, Japan – Mazda Motor Corporation has launched a “freshened” version of its MX-5 in Japan, where it is known as the Mazda Roadster. The model has officially gone on sale in both a regular soft-top version and with a power retractable hardtop.
The new version includes improvements in the interior and exterior design, quality, functionality and performance. The company said that the hardtop models are now quieter and feature new, exclusive exterior parts.
The front fascia has been updated with Mazda’s five-point grille, along with a stronger character line that extends to the rear bumper, newly designed alloy wheels, and new exterior colours. Inside, the MX-5 features new gauges, available Recaro bucket seats, and five-setting seat heaters. On all models, the rev limit has been increased to 7,500 rpm, and the suspension has been retuned.
The MX-5 was certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s highest-production two-seater open sports car when production passed 500,000 units in 2000. Guinness has since updated the record, which now stands at over 800,000 units built.
