Mazda delivers first hydrogen dual-fuel rotaries to customers

Hiroshima, Japan – Mazda Motor Corporation has delivered two RX-8 Hydrogen RE vehicles to corporate customers in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, marking the first commercial leasing of a hydrogen-gasoline dual fuel vehicle.

The rotary-powered RX-8 features a dual-fuel system that allows the driver to select either hydrogen or gasoline by flicking a switch. The vehicle’s hydrogen range is 100 km; the car stores 100 litres of hydrogen. For future versions, Mazda plans to incorporate the hydrogen rotary engine with its emerging Mazda Hybrid System and an electric-motor-assisted turbocharger to enhance efficiency.
