Mazda Canada to launch new 2004 Mazda6 in January, 2003
Scarborough, Ontario – Mazda Canada announced today that the all-new Mazda6 sedan will go on sale in Canada in January 2003 as a 2004 model. Production of Canadian specification Mazda6 vehicles will commence early in January at AutoAlliance International Inc. in Flat Rock, Michigan. Shipment to Canadian dealers will follow immediately afterward and the 2004 Mazda6 will be in showrooms across Canada by the end of January 2003.
The Mazda6 is an all-new intermediate sedan that replaces the 626. The 2004 Mazda6 will be available in Canada with a choice of either a 160-horsepower 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine or a 220-horsepower, 3.0-litre V6 engine.
“Dealer input and support is a critical component in any successful vehicle launch”, said Mike Benchimol, president of Mazda Canada Inc. “Thanks to our dealers’ recommendations, voiced through our National Dealer Council, we have established a launch plan that will make the 2004 Mazda6 a big hit here in Canada. I’m very encouraged with their enthusiasm for this new vehicle”.
Prices for the 2004 Mazda6 will be released at a later date.
The Mazda6 (called the Atenza in Japan) was launched earlier this year in Japan and Europe, with sales exceeding the company’s forecasts.
