Matt Damon auctions and buys $80,000 Smart

Toronto, Ontario – A Smart Fortwo donated by Smart Canada and autographed by several celebrities attending a charity event in Toronto was auctioned off and eventually bought by actor Matt Damon for $80,000.

The event, held at the Carlu in Toronto to help raise funds for several African aid organizations, was attended by numerous people in conjunction with the Toronto International Film Festival, including Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz, Chantal Kreviazuk, Rick Mercer, UN Special Advisor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Olympian Clara Hughes and musician John Legend. The event included a charity auction.

Damon acted as auctioneer, with bidding starting at $25,000; Damon was one of the bidders and eventually drove the price to his winning bid of $80,000.
