MISSISSAUGA, ONT. – As a proud sponsor of the second annual National Tree Day, Nissan Canada is providing a 2012 Nissan LEAF SL as the grand prize for a new Tree Canada contest which asks Canadians to “Get Treemotional.” In celebration of National Tree Day, starting today, Canadians can submit an image of their favourite tree at nationaltreeday.ca, and explain what makes that tree special in 50 words or less. The grand prize winner will be selected at random on October 2nd, 2012.

National Tree Day, presented by Tree Canada, takes place on Wednesday, September 26th, and will serve as a day of awareness for Canadians to reflect on how protecting and planting trees ensures a better quality of life. The official National Tree Day launch event will take place in Ottawa at Andrew Haydon Park on September 25th, where Nissan Canada will participate in the kick-off ceremonies, which will be full of fun activities and games, tree planting, speeches and Nissan LEAF test drives. The celebrations will continue the next day with Canadians participating in local tree-planting events in cities, forests and neighbourhoods right across the country.

“It is a pleasant coincidence that the 100 per cent electric Nissan LEAF arrived in Canada the same year as the first official National Tree Day, and Nissan Canada is delighted to support this important event for a second year,” said Judy Wheeler, Director of Marketing at Nissan Canada. “The parallels don’t stop there – National Tree Day is a celebration for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees provide us: clean air, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature – all mandates the Nissan LEAF also exists to serve.”
