Come for the news, stay for the live stream featuring Duran Duran
What do you do when you need to reveal a reincarnated icon to the masses? Hire a reincarnated musical icon from the past.
That’s what Mazda will be doing tonight in California, when the Japanese automaker takes the wraps off its next-generation MX-5 Miata, headlined by Duran Duran.
Expected to be powered by a four-cylinder SkyActive powerplant, the general consensus is the 2016 MX-5 will displace 2.0 litres and be normally aspirated. Yet, there is some video floating around purported to showcase a turbocharged engine note. We will see.
The next-generation model is expected to drop a significant amount of weight, as much as 100 kg, thanks to a lighter chassis and components. And we can only hope Mazda’s latest design language carries over to their iconic roadster, giving the droptop an aggressive appearance for once.
