Dearborn, Michigan – Ford has announced that, by this time next year, the Ontario-built Lincoln MKX crossover vehicle will offer adaptive headlights that swivel left and right as the vehicle changes direction. The headlights have already appeared on certain Jaguar and Land Rover models.

The lighting system features halogen projector-beam headlamps, mounted in a cage that pivots from right to left. An electric motor swivels the cage to the correct position, based on vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. When cornering, the headlamps can illuminate a stretch of road up to 11 metres longer than conventional headlights.
