Light truck sales propel Canadian vehicle sales in November
Vancouver, British Columbia – Vehicle sales were up 3.9% in November over the same month last year, but most of that increase was in light trucks (pickups, SUVs, minivans). Light truck sales rose 7.5% while car sales rose 0.8%.
Amongst the non-luxury manufacturers, the big gainers in November were Hyundai (+51.5%), Nissan (+20.6%), Subaru (+12.0%), Toyota (+11.6%), Suzuki (+10.6%), and Mazda (+8.6%). General Motors and DaimlerChrysler saw small sales increases of (+2.8%) and (+0.8%) respectively. General Motors, the largest vehicle seller in Canada, saw its truck sales rise 18.8% while car sales were down 9.4%.
Decliners in November included Volkswagen (-7.7%), Ford (-4.9%), and Honda (-1.2%). All the luxury automakers experienced sales increases – with the exception of Acura (-19.0%).
