Toronto, Ontario – Lexus of Canada has announced its most sophisticated flagship sedan to date, the 2008 Lexus LS 600h L long-wheelbase, all-wheel drive hybrid-powered luxury sedan.

Lexus says the LS 600h L is the world’s first full-hybrid V8 AWD vehicle; it uses an all-new 5.0-litre V8 coupled with high-output electric motors and a newly-designed, large-capacity battery pack to deliver performance on par with a V12. The system produces up to 438 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque, while returning fuel efficiency comparable to a V6 and with a fraction of the emissions of a conventionally-powered vehicle.

Enhancements to the Lexus Hybrid Drive unique to the LS600h L include advances in inverter and battery cooling technology, smaller and lighter components, and a new electric motor design that delivers high torque at every speed. A new dual-stage, electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) allows the driver to select one of three acceleration response modes, and eight ranges of engine brake force. The vehicle also includes the world’s first white LED headlamps with automatic levelling, Lexus Advanced Pre-Collision System, electronically-controlled brake system, ten airbags and standard 19-inch or available 18-inch all-season tires.

The LS 600h L starts at $132,000, while the Executive Package is priced at $158,700. Both versions go on sale in the summer of 2007.
