Gaydon, England – Land Rover is supporting Born Free, an international wildlife charity that is working to prevent the snaring and consumption of wild animal meat. A new film, produced in Kenya by Born Free in partnership with Land Rover, has been created to raise awareness of the illegal “bushmeat” trade in Kenya, in which wild animals are trapped and sold for human consumption.
According to Born Free, rising food prices, crop failures and the global recession are leading to a rise in the illegal meat trade in Kenya. The agency also released figures showing that 7,500 tonnes of illegal meat products enter Britain each year, some disguised as beef, with more than half distributed through wholesalers or local street markets.
The Born Free Foundation uses Land Rovers in Kenya to travel to wildlife areas, where snares are located and removed.
