Lance Armstrong to drive Indy 500 Corvette pace car
Indianapolis, Indiana – Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong will drive the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 pace car to lead the field to the start of the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 28, 2006. Chevrolet has now paced the race a record 17 times; this will be the eighth time that a Corvette has done so. Chevrolet’s first pace car was a Fleetmaster in 1948, and the company has paced the race consecutively since 2002, with Corvettes in 2002, 2004 and 2005, and an SSR in 2003. Corvettes were also used in 1986, 1995 and 1998.
The 2006 pace car will feature a red, white and blue theme, and display an abstract U.S. flag pattern with red and blue ribbons flowing across the white car. The race will be broadcast live by ABC Sports; for more information, visit www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com.
