Kumho Tires begins production in new Chinese plant

Tianjin, China – Kumho Tires has announced its opening ceremony in the Chinese Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), following a total investment of US$246 million. Construction began in April 2005.

The plant is expected to be capable of manufacturing 5.25 million tires annually; in 2007, the company will increase its investment to US$370 million to meet a predicted production level of 10.4 million tires. The company will also invest US$36 million to set up a research and development centre in TEDA, creating a production base that integrates tire research, development, production and sales, as well as Kumho’s investment strategic base in China.
