Kia boosts presence in Russia
Seoul, South Korea – Kia Motors Corporation and its partner SOK Group of Russia have announced that they are on track to commence production of the Spectra sedan on a complete knock-down basis at the beginning of August 2005. The project, which will consist of full-scale body, paint and assembly operations, is Kia’s largest knock-down assembly operation in Russia.
The facility will have an annual capacity of 220,000 units and includes a newly designed plastic line and modernized primer and top-coat line. More than 50 Russian workers are scheduled to receive training at Kia’s Korea facilities before the start of mass production. Currently, the Spectra project calls for a total of 148,000 units between 2005 and 2009.
