June vehicle sales down 2.6%

Richmond Hill, Ontario – Canadian vehicle sales in June were down 2.6 per cent from the same month a year ago, but remain up 0.9 per cent on a year-to-date basis, says industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers.

DaimlerChrysler suffered a huge 34.7% decline, while GM and Ford were up 4.6% and 2.1% respectively. Import nameplates such as Honda, Kia, Mitsubishi, Smart and Suzuki were all up more than 10%, while Nissan suffered the worst decline among the major importers with a 25.7% decline.

Overall, the industry sold 157,300 units, the third-best June ever; DesRosiers reports that he expects the year to end with over 1.5 million vehicles sold.
