Geneva, Switzerland – Jaguar has unveiled the supercharged XKR Special Edition coupe at the Geneva Motor Show. With a top speed of 280 km/h, the company said it is the fastest XK ever.
The XKR Special Edition combines a number of new features and option packages that will be introduced to the XK range in the 2011 model year.
Introduced last year, the XKR uses a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine that delivers 510 horsepower and reaches 96 km/h in 4.6 seconds. In the Special Edition, the XKR’s top speed climbs significantly from an electronically-limited 250 km/h to 280 km/h with the addition of the Speed Pack.
The Special Edition pairs the optional Speed and Black Packs to create the model unveiled in Geneva, which also sports optional Piano Black veneers on the dashboard and red brake calipers. Both option packages are also available separately.
“The XKR has immense reserves of power and acceleration which impress everyone who experience it,” said Russ Varney, chief program engineer of the XK series. “The car has always had the potential to reach speeds far beyond its original electronically-limited maximum, and many of our customers have expressed interest in a car that can be safely driven faster where conditions permit. The new Speed Pack allows them to release some of that potential and give them control of the fastest Jaguar XK we’ve made to date.”
