International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada credits small vehicles for sales success

Toronto, Ontario – The president of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC) says that the association’s thirteen member companies have achieved significant sales success in Canada by capitalizing on consumer demand for smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles.

“The numbers speak for themselves,” said David Adams, President of AIAMC. “We are two-thirds of the way through the 2006 calendar year and it’s clear that AIAMC member companies are being rewarded in the marketplace by bringing fresh product offerings that combine fuel efficiency, vehicle utility as well as comfort and convenience to Canadians.”

Year-to-date sales through August of subcompact vehicles rose from 9.9 per cent of all passenger car sales in 2005 to 11.8 per cent in 2006. The AIAMC includes the Canadian branches of BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota and Volkswagen.
