U.S. Independent repair shops seek right to same service information as franchised dealers
Bethesda, Maryland – Congressional support for the proposed Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right To Repair Act in the U.S. continues to grow, as nine new co-sponsors signed on. The proposed legislation currently has fifty co-sponsors.
The act would require automakers to make the same service information and tool capabilities available to independent repair shops that they provide to their franchised dealer networks. Architects of the act added new language this year, to clarify that car company trade secrets are protected, unless that information is provided to the franchised new car dealers.
