Chicago, Illinois – Hyundai has unveiled its 2012 Genesis sedan at the Chicago Auto Show. The model features new direct injection technology for its V6 engine, new eight-speed automatic transmissions, enhanced chassis tuning, and a new 5.0-litre direct-injection V8 engine in the 5.0 R-Spec model.
The R-Spec also includes unique 19-inch wheels, optional Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 summer performance tires, sport-tuned transmission, and sport suspension and steering calibrations.
The 5.0 R-Spec uses a new Tau V8 engine, producing 429 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque, the most powerful Hyundai engine ever. It is mated to a new in-house eight-speed transmission, the first offered by a non-luxury-branded manufacturer, the company said.
The 3.8-litre V6 engine will now produce 333 horsepower, up from 290, and a rise in peak torque from 264 lb-ft to 291. The V6 will also use the eight-speed transmission, as will the 4.6-litre V8 that returns for 2012.
