Fountain Valley, California – The all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata has been named a “Top Safety Pick” by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The award is given to vehicles that receive top ratings in front, side, rear and rollover crashes in IIHS testing, and have electronic stability control either as standard or available equipment.

The 2011 model marks the first time the Sonata has earned the top award. The previous-generation Sonata was rated the top “good” for front and rear impact protection, but only “acceptable”  in the side impact test, and “marginal” for rollover protection.
