Hyundai sells one millionth Sonata in the U.S.
Fountain Valley, California – Hyundai Motor America has announced that Crain Hyundai of North Little Rock, Arkansas has delivered the one millionth Sonata sold in the United States.
“Historically, the Sonata represents the best of Hyundai’s ability to combine style, safety, quality and value into one package for consumers,” said Dave Zuchowski, vice president, National Sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Like our company, the vehicle itself has evolved dramatically over the past 20 years and we’re well-positioned to sell another million in the United States.”
The Sonata was introduced in 1989 and was Hyundai’s second nameplate in the U.S. It has received four complete redesigns since then, the latest in model-year 2006, when it became the first Hyundai model ever built in the U.S. Production began in 2005 at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, which also builds the Santa Fe and accounts for more than half of Hyundai’s sales volume in the U.S. The company plans to introduce a “refreshed” Sonata at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show.
