Hyundai reports 51.5% sales increase in 2001

Markham, Ontario – Hyundai Auto Canada reported a significant 51.5% sales increase in the calendar year 2001 compared to 2000. The company says that all of its models had increased sales lead by the redesigned Elantra sedan and Elantra GT hatchback models which had a 96.2% sales increase.

As well, the Accent subcompact car was up 15.4%, the Tiburon sporty coupe up 44.4%, and the mid-sized Sonata sedan up 43.9%. The new XG300/XG350 luxury sedans and Santa Fe compact SUV models were introduced in the Fall of 2001, so meaningful sales increases were not available.

“The only word that can describe the year we have had at Hyundai is incredible,” stated Steve Kelleher, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Sales have been on the rise since the beginning of the year, and to finish with a 51.5% increase over last year is something that we are all very proud of. We are producing high quality vehicles, and the Canadian public who realizes this is making Hyundai a serious contender in the automotive industry.”
