Hyundai model named Australia’s Car of the Year and outstanding Green Car

Seoul, South Korea – The diesel-powered Hyundai i30 has won the 2007 CARSguide Car of the Year award in Australia, along with the CARSguide Green Car of the Year in recognition of its frugal and eco-friendly performance. Last month, the i30 took the Panasonic Solar Challenge Greenfleet award, when it travelled from Darwin to Adelaide using an average of 3.2 L/100 km.

The national car of the year award marks the first time for a Korean-made vehicle in Australia. In order, the finalists were the Hyundai i30, VW Golf GT TSi, Mazda2 Maxx, Mitsubishi Lancer VR, Mercedes-Benz C280, Holden Ute SV6, Ford Mondeo Zetec, Subaru Impreza RS, BMW X5 3.0d, BMW 335i sedan, and Volvo C30 T5.

The cars were judged on criteria including styling, safety, innovation, value, functionality, build quality and performance. The i30 received 94 out of a possible 99 points.
